I mentioned a few weeks ago about Google Video. Literally days after that, I first heard about YouTube. In typical web fashion, YouTube is now everywhere. And it's no wonder. It's a very easy to use and highly addictive way to find independent video online. For example in just 5 minutes of browsing, I came across a totally whacked Loose Fur video (thanks, Thrasher!). And lo and behold if someone hasn't set "When the Rain Comes" to anime.
If it sounds like a video version of Napster waiting to happen, you're not the only one. Despite being accused of sticking "a big, fat finger into the eye of media companies", the companies founders claim to be copyright friendly: ""This is not 1999. Those guys [Napster] were renegades. They thought no one could touch them," says Kevin Donahue, YouTube's VP of marketing and programming. "We want to be in business with content owners, not in conflict." (quotes are from above MSNBC story)
In case you're still wondering about the legalities of the site, do a quick Google search on "youtube". There are more than a few lawsuits pending.
Controversies aside, video on the web is here to stay.
Why am I finding such humor in having trouble with the Nokia Theater checking you PHONE? LOLOLOLOL
I need sleep. I can't wait until finals are over!

I love getting to see videos like these and it is a great creative outlet but I do think this is a lawsuit waiting to happen. It is an infringement risk on so many levels.
Even though, I loved the video clip of "Nothing But The Blood" most venues very clearly say no videos or cameras. The last time I went to Nokia Theatre in Grand Prairie I had to show them my phone to prove it didn't have a camera.
It is a site to watch though.

I think a lot of bands are using that on myspace.com and such to keep fans updated with video...instead of regular text. Pretty neat to get in inside peek into the lives of musicians.
