Summer Reading Club, the home stretch!!!

OK, I know it's been a few weeks.  Hey - I've been busy!  But today you have the unprecedented, well, only a little bit precedented opportunity to take part in the Summer Reading Club!

  • To participate, all you have to do is set up a little blog post about the books you've been reading.  A list would be kind of cool.
  • Put a link back to THIS POST in the body of your Summer Reading Club blog post.
  • Use the Mr. Linky tool below to link back to your post.  Be sure to link back to the Summer Reading Club post, not your general blog URL.
  • Bear in mind that the SRC ends NEXT WEEK.  For the final Summer Reading Club blogging party, everyone will do a list of what they've been reading.  It might not be a bad idea to start getting those lists together.  I mean, if you're interested in winning some kind of prizes...

check this site out to keep track of all your books.. and check out what I have been reading this summer.. http://www.librarything.com/catalog/billrod

I finally posted...I haven't finished the review but I did finish the book.

I had my list on my sidebar and then changed my layout and POOF!!!! everything disappeared!

I've read a lot of books this summer, Mark, but keeping up a blog felt too much like homework. I don't like homework. Love to assign it to my students.....but hate doing it myself....

I haven't really read that many books, but I have been dedicated. Doesn't that count for something? :P

I used last weeks...but I just finished another last night and working on one now...but I'm too tired to write them up :) So I will add them to the list when we get to doing lists...

Got another book posted tonight. Hopping to get my last book done this next week. Reading the book Stiff by Mary Roach.

Well, I'm plugging away, but I've been gone a lot also, so it's taking me a while. I am on my third book (called Emergence) and a bit over halfway through. I hope I can finish it this week. Not expecting any prizes. Reading is it's own reward. It's cool to see what others have been doing, and the club is some incentive. Thanks again for putting this together. :)

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. I've already posted SPOON RIVER on the last MrLinky. Hey, who can blame me? It's been a while. So, remove my link (or leave it there as a monument to my idiocy).

I am currently engrossed in a Sam Cooke bio. Great stuff! With all the talk as of late about 'christian crossover', seems timely.

first post this week, but i'm easy.. i read all of Vince Flynn's books this summer. well, all the ones that are out in paperback - his latest comes out in paperback in a few weeks...

Welcome back! I've also got my complete list, read and not read, in my sidebar, but all of the ones that I've read are in my post with their summary/review. It's been a great summer, thanks for the incentive Mr. Lee!

My list is on my sidebar. I think Spoon River is where I left off with the SRC. =)

    • R.E.M. -

      R.E.M.: Accelerate CD/DVD
Athens' own return with a trashy cool offering - their most consistent album in years. I think they're mad at their dad or something (****)

    • The Rolling Stones -

The Rolling Stones: Shine a Light: Original Soundtrack
This is what a live album SHOULD sound like. Unedited, unfixed - just a good recording of what happened that night... (****)

    • Mudcrutch -

      Mudcrutch: Mudcrutch
Tom Petty and Mike Campbell reunite with their old band and forge an instant classic. (****)

    • Counting Crows -

Counting Crows: Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings
It was pretty gutsy to lay it out the way they did: all the rockers on the "Saturday Night" section and all the ballads on the "Sunday Morning" side. But it works, and in a major way. Some of the best guitar work I've heard in recent memory. (*****)

    • The Black Crowes -

The Black Crowes: The Lost Crowes
WHY DIDN'T ANYBODY TELL ME ABOUT THIS RECORD?! You've heard most of these songs on other records, but it's just so raw and band-y here. Fall in love with the best band in the world all over again... (*****)

    • Pillar -

Pillar: For The Love Of The Game
So far this is the album to beat for the rock album of 2008 in the Christian market... The title track has kind of been my "theme song" the last couple of months. (*****)

    • Maylene and the Sons of Disaster -

Maylene and the Sons of Disaster: II
The perfect blend of Southern rock and metal - this is my favorite album right now. (*****)

    • Kevn Kinney -

Kevn Kinney: Broken Hearts & Auto Parts
I picked this up in Athens the other day. It starts out a little slow, but turns into vintage Kevn Kinney/Drivin n Cryin. This is as good as anything he/they have ever put out! (****)

    • The Black Crowes -

      The Black Crowes: Warpaint
If you look up "killer" in the dictionary, you will find a picture of these guys.

    • Baroness -

      Baroness: Red Album
So far the most original and inspiring music I've heard this year... (*****)

    • Down -

Down: Down - Over The Under
This is easily the most rockin' records I've ever owned. It's like redneck Soundgarden. Heaven for a dude like me... (*****)

    • Demon Hunter -

Demon Hunter: Storm the Gates of Hell
Don't let the "metalcore" label fool you. This album features some of the biggest and hookiest choruses you'll ever hear. "Lead Us Home", "Carry Me Down", and "Thorns" are great examples. Plus I think they'll give you your money back if the title track doesn't make your ears bleed :) (*****)
