Summer Reading Club, week 0

We'll start "officially" collecting your Summer Reading Club lists next week to give you more time to be reading.  BUT I thought it might be fun to start this week with a little "bonus".  To show you how slack the SRC is going to be, I'm going to let you cheat!

Here's what you need to do to participate:

  • Do a blog post listing the last 2 books you've read.  Be sure to include a link the URL of THIS POST, not my general blog URL.
  • Click on "Mister Linky" below and follow instructions to link back to the URL of YOUR BLOG POST, not your general blog URL.

Next week, we'll start SRC in earnest, but you can keep these two books in your list!

O.K. I will have to figure out the blog thing when I get home from work. I didn't catch the directions until after I added my name, so I might end up on their twice. LOL I'm just out of time. But I have posted the blog, so I'm more than halfway there. LOL

OK...Gonna give this a try, but two questions :)

1. So if I'm in the midst of a really good book, and the kids come in wanting something trivial like, say, supper...is it acceptable to tell them "Not now, I'm doing my homework!" ??? Better yet, can I use the whiny voice they always use when the tables are turned on them???

2. Was it ever determined if childrens' books count? Or at the very least, can we get bonus points for reviewing the ones we read to our preschoolers?

Not sure what i'm getting myself into, but i'm on board... Mr. Linky worked fine for me and i've never even heard of it before...

peace... love... bdg...

Sweet!!! I'm in! I linked to my blog, will be posting the list here soon.

You'd think as a teacher I'd be able to follow directions....Call it "brain drain" from the school year....

Ohhh I am number 13!
lol
I have linked it to my Blog....now I gotta have something interesting to write.
Oh dear.

Boy I hope I did that right! Any time you ask us to do something new I get a knock in my stomach. It's all good though. OK off to read!

Never too late to join! Come one, come all!!!

Is it too late for me to join?

Don't know if I did it right or not...never used Mr. Linky before, but I think I added my list. :0) Happy reading!

Okay I joined...where am I supposed to leave a comment? Yeah I need a class in blogger and html.

Getting my list ready.

Reading Jason's reviews makes me want to just post the title and check the YES I READ IT box. If the prizes are awarded on writing skill and review content, he has an unfair advantage.

FYI - part of the reason I'm doing this "bonus round" is that last time I used Mr. Linky it was a disaster!

This is a little better, in that it works, but it's a little clunky.

Look for improvements next week! Thanks for bearing with me...

BTW - anyone have any experience using Typepad and Mr. Linky? I need a clinic!

    What's in my CD player

    • R.E.M. -

      R.E.M.: Accelerate CD/DVD
Athens' own return with a trashy cool offering - their most consistent album in years. I think they're mad at their dad or something (****)

    • The Rolling Stones -

The Rolling Stones: Shine a Light: Original Soundtrack
This is what a live album SHOULD sound like. Unedited, unfixed - just a good recording of what happened that night... (****)

    • Mudcrutch -

      Mudcrutch: Mudcrutch
Tom Petty and Mike Campbell reunite with their old band and forge an instant classic. (****)

    • Counting Crows -

Counting Crows: Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings
It was pretty gutsy to lay it out the way they did: all the rockers on the "Saturday Night" section and all the ballads on the "Sunday Morning" side. But it works, and in a major way. Some of the best guitar work I've heard in recent memory. (*****)

    • The Black Crowes -

The Black Crowes: The Lost Crowes
WHY DIDN'T ANYBODY TELL ME ABOUT THIS RECORD?! You've heard most of these songs on other records, but it's just so raw and band-y here. Fall in love with the best band in the world all over again... (*****)

    • Pillar -

Pillar: For The Love Of The Game
So far this is the album to beat for the rock album of 2008 in the Christian market... The title track has kind of been my "theme song" the last couple of months. (*****)

    • Maylene and the Sons of Disaster -

Maylene and the Sons of Disaster: II
The perfect blend of Southern rock and metal - this is my favorite album right now. (*****)

    • Kevn Kinney -

Kevn Kinney: Broken Hearts & Auto Parts
I picked this up in Athens the other day. It starts out a little slow, but turns into vintage Kevn Kinney/Drivin n Cryin. This is as good as anything he/they have ever put out! (****)

    • The Black Crowes -

      The Black Crowes: Warpaint
If you look up "killer" in the dictionary, you will find a picture of these guys.

    • Baroness -

      Baroness: Red Album
So far the most original and inspiring music I've heard this year... (*****)

    • Down -

Down: Down - Over The Under
This is easily the most rockin' records I've ever owned. It's like redneck Soundgarden. Heaven for a dude like me... (*****)

    • Demon Hunter -

Demon Hunter: Storm the Gates of Hell
Don't let the "metalcore" label fool you. This album features some of the biggest and hookiest choruses you'll ever hear. "Lead Us Home", "Carry Me Down", and "Thorns" are great examples. Plus I think they'll give you your money back if the title track doesn't make your ears bleed :) (*****)
