My Top 5 Musical Discoveries of 2006

1. Leeland - The last time I heard an artist with this much passion was Deliriou5?
2. Ollabelle - Every song is different but they're all great. Chance discovery in a BBQ joint in Springfield, MO
3. Mason Jennings - Nothing special on the surface, but these songs will stick with you like few others.
4. Zac Brown Band - Best live show I saw this year.
5. KT Tunstall - Amazingly unique talent. She has the potential for a long and historic career...

Hyper Static Union and Leeland were about the only two new artists I went and bought cds for. I also got into a bunch of other artists who've been around for awhile, including my Dad's continuing to play seventies rock'n'roll bands while I'm around.

I have to agree about Leeland, and he has an amazing voice as well. I "discovered" him at Creation West during the morning worship and stuck around to see the whole band in the afternoon. And I definitely love K.T. Tunstall. I'm in a cd club and her cd is next on the list. I checked out Ollabelle when you blogged about them and recall enjoying them. I should listen again.

I will have to really think hard about which artists I discovered this year. The years start to run together anymore, but in addition to Leeland & Tunstall, I do recall finding This Providence, Maxeen and Paramore. There was one other, and I went totally blank.

I am looking forward to checking out all of the artists out and making new discoveries for '07.

Since you and Jason pretty much covered my new discoveries of the year, I'll tell you who I REdiscovered: Colin Hay. There's nothing like a powerful, unique voice with an acoustic guitar.
